How it works
The mechanics, hole by hole.
- 1Both players tee off on every hole.
- 2Each player then hits their partner's drive (i.e., second shots are swapped).
- 3After those second shots, the team picks ONE ball and alternates shots from there to hole out.
- 4One team score per hole. Lowest team total wins.
When to play it
Best fit.
The cerebral team format — chosen by serious 2-player partnerships who like the strategic decision of which ball to pick after the swap. Slow for a big outing (one ball per team on every shot from the second), but perfect for a head-to-head buddy round.
Worked example
3 holes, with the math shown.
| Player | H1 (par 4) | H2 (par 5) | H3 (par 3) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mike | 4 | 5 | 3 |
| Tom | 4 | 4 | 4 |
| Austin | 5 | 6 | 3 |
| Luke | 5 | 5 | 4 |
| Team (Single team score) | 4 | 4 | 3 |
Each player's contributing balls are highlighted. The team's 3-hole total is 11. Across 18 holes, that's the team's leaderboard score.
